Mindful Monday- Stop the Success Shaming!
We would all like to be "successful" but our beliefs about success can be a source of motivation or discouragement depending on the criteria we use to measure it. If we use standards like comparison to others or the right amount of money in the bank (goals that leave us at the mercy of uncontrollables), we are bound to feel like failures far too often.
Here are some quotes that put success into a perspective that may add more joy and well-being to your journey of accomplishment.
"The measure of success is not whether you have a tough problem to deal with, but whether it is the same problem you had last year."
-John Foster Dulles
"Happiness simply cannot be relied upon as a measure of success."
-John C. Maxwell
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
-Winston Churchill
"I believe that anyone can be successful in life, regardless of natural talent or the environment within which we live. This is not based on measuring success by human competitiveness for wealth, possessions, influence, and fame, but adhering to God's standards of truth, justice, humility, service, compassion, forgiveness, and love."
-Jimmy Carter
"Being best is a false goal, you have to measure success on your own terms."
-Damien Hirst
"I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces when he hits bottom."
-George S. Patton
"Experience has taught me that you cannot value dreams according to the odds of their coming true. Their real value is in stirring within us the will to aspire."
-Sonia Sotomayor
"My private measure of success is daily. If this were to be the last day of my life would I be content with it? To live in a harmonious balance of commitments and pleasures is what I strive for."
-Jane Rule
"The only real failure is the failure to try, and the measure of success is how we cope with disappointment."
-Deborah Moggach
